Scarecrow’s hat

Carpe Diem Special #123,
Richard Wright’s 4th “the scarecrow’s old hat“.

The scarecrow’s old hat
Was flung by the winter wind
Into a graveyard.         © Richard Wright

it had to pass some trees
and was pushed here and there

a girl looked up
sawthe hat riding the wind
wants to run after

her mother said stop
mind the traffic in the street

she hesitated
being not obedient
or what – she thought

about struggling between
mother and curiosity

a true hard battle
attracted by treasure hunt
obstructions on road

while hesitating by side
cars stopped resolutely

she crossed happily
running after into yard
the wind took her cap

she didn’t notice at all
cause treasure hat replaced it
